Safekids Aotearoa has produced a Child Pedestrian Injury Prevention Position Paper

The report seeks to identify and recommend a range of proven pedestrian safety measures and other policies and good practice interventions that will help to reduce child pedestrian injury rates further. These include:
  • reducing the inequities in child pedestrian injury for Maori and Pacific children and those living in areas of high deprivation
  • lowering speed limits
  • addressing area-wide traffic calming measures that are based on risk prediction and need
  • ensuring that driveway safety information is incorporated within each territorial authority's residential design guidelines, which recommends shorter driveways, speed reduction measures and signage for ling driveways and greater separation between driveways and childrens' play areas

The position paper can be downloaded from the Safekids Aotearoa website resources' position papers section here
