Why home safety?

By the age of two, 28% of children in New Zealand would have sustained an injury that required a doctor, health centre or hospital visit. The most common place where an injury occurs is in the children’s own home (69%).

Who should attend? 

Community leaders, policy makers, health professionals, teachers, home visitors, injury prevention practitioners, Tamariki Ora providers, DHBs, councils, refugee and new migrant services and social support services.

The workshop runs from 9:30 AM till 3:00 PM. It covers:

  • Child Injury data: A national and regional picture
  • Discussion on Child Development / Safe Environment / Supervision
  • Home-related injuries and how to prevent them:

    – Cutting & Piercing Injury

    – Fall Injury
    – Low Speed Driveway Run Over

    – Suffocation and Strangulation
  • Development of an action plan
