Accidental falls: Fatalities and injuries- An examination of the data sources and review of the literature on preventive strategies

The aim of this report is to quantify and describe the mortality and morbidity resulting from fall injuries in all age groups in a manner that is meaningful and useful for preventive purposes. The specific objectives are: (1) to examine different data sources to see what they can tell us about the major causes of falls (2) to combine the data on the burden of injury with information on the potential for prevention (3) to discus the evidence relating to preventive strategies and to make recommendations for policy makers and researchers in relation to fall injuries.
