A multifaceted approach to improving motor vehicle restraint compliance.

This article documents the implementation of a public health education programme (The Vehicle Injury Prevention Program) to increase the correct use of vehicle restraints. This multifaceted education campaign brought together six segments of the community: education, health, government, law enforcement, private industry and the media to improve proper restraint use. The conclusion reached was that implementation of a public health programme, combined with economic incentives to increase vehicle restraint use, can be successful with multifaceted community support.
