Water safety supervision of young children at beaches: Report to the Faculty of Education Research Committee, the University of Auckland; Surf Life Saving New Zealand and Watersafe Auckland.
This report focuses on how families/ social groups supervise their children at beaches in the Auckland region. The research is based on surveys undertaken at 18 beaches. Key recommendations appear on pages 35-36 and focus on the importance of close and constant supervision as a minumum - even in seemingly benign conditions, constant alertness to changing conditions, what to reasonably expect of lifeguards etc.
