Validation of injury surveillance in emergency departments

The aim of the validation study was to assess and validate the Emergency Department Information System (EDIS) as a means of acquiring Level 2 injury surveillance data as defined by NDS-IS in public hospital emergency departments (EDs) in Queensland. Objectives: (1) To evaluate the completeness of ascertainment of cases, (2) To examine the completeness of data recorded for included cases, (3) To examine conditions which influence the completeness and the reliability of data, and (4) To assess the ED staff level of acceptance of the EDIS software.
